Privacy Policy
1. Who We Are
SettlementScan ("we", "us", "our") operates www.settlementscan.com. This Privacy Policy describes what we collect, why we collect it, and your choices. Questions can be sent to support@settlementscan.com.
2. Information We Collect
a) Account information
If you create an account, we collect your email address and (when authentication is wired up) a hashed password. We may also store basic profile information you choose to provide, such as a display name or notification preferences.
b) Scan questionnaire answers
When you use the Scan tool, we process the categories, brand names, products, and services you enter so we can show you possible matches. During the beta, scan inputs are processed in your browser; we only store them server-side if you have an account and choose to save them.
c) Saved matches and alerts
If you save a match or sign up for an alert, we store that record so we can show it to you and notify you when its status changes.
d) Analytics and logs
We collect basic technical information automatically: IP address, browser/user-agent, pages visited, referring URL, and timestamps. This is used for operational logging, security, abuse prevention, and aggregate product analytics. We try to keep analytics privacy-respectful and we do not use this data to build advertising profiles.
e) Payment information
If you start a paid subscription, payment is handled by our payment processor (currently Stripe). We do not see or store your full card number; Stripe gives us limited information such as the last four digits and subscription status so we can manage your account.
3. How We Use Information
- To run the Service, surface possible matches, and send the alerts you ask for.
- To maintain and secure the Service, prevent abuse, and debug issues.
- To improve the matching database and the questionnaire.
- To process payments for any paid features through Stripe.
- To respond to your support, deletion, or privacy requests.
4. We Do Not Sell Your Personal Information
In plain language: we do not sell your personal information to data brokers, advertisers, or third parties. We do not "share" your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
5. When We Share Information
- Service providers who help us operate the Service (for example, hosting on Vercel, payment processing through Stripe, transactional email delivery). They may only use the information to provide their service to us.
- Legal compliance if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect rights and safety.
- Business transfers if SettlementScan is acquired or merged, in which case we will let users know.
6. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep account information while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by emailing support@settlementscan.com from the email address on file. We will confirm and delete within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain limited records (for example, billing receipts).
7. Your Choices
- You can opt out of non-essential email by replying or using the unsubscribe link.
- You can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- You can request correction or deletion of that data.
8. Note for California Residents
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you specific rights, including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any California privacy right, email support@settlementscan.com with the subject line "California Privacy Request"; we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
9. Children
SettlementScan is intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact support@settlementscan.com and we will delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect data, but no system is perfectly secure. You use the Service at your own risk and should keep your account credentials private.
11. International Use
SettlementScan is operated from the United States and is intended primarily for U.S. consumers. By using the Service, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
